Project Title
Cantaloupe
Awarded Bar of the Year by Time Out in 1997, Cantaloupe was one of the first bars to cater for Shoreditch's newest clientele, setting a benchmark for others to follow. The Victorian warehouse conversion was also one of Waugh Thistleton's first projects and reflects the practice's design intentions from its very beginnings.

The extension marries cool and calming colours with industrial materials. Here, the main bar's rough wooden tables and chipboard floor give way to metal and MDF furnishings and concrete flooring. The bar is visible from the street. An oak and pewter bar forms the main focus of the space with its sculptural curve and yellow down-lit wall. The restaurant area is a more intimate setting created by a simple change in level as well as the use of burgundy banquettes and reclaimed wooden flooring.
