Project Title
Pod Lloyd's Avenue
Waugh Thistleton's sophisticated and environmentally aware design of this 70-seater eatery reflects client Pod's business ethos. We have placed three key elements into the existing unit, leaving the remaining structure largely untouched. The main feature placed into the space is the sweet chestnut clad pod on the ground floor incorporating the gleaming stainless steel kitchen open to public view and a mezzanine area above designed for relaxed seating. Locally sourced and coppiced grown, sweet chestnut is a natural, entirely sustainable hardwood accredited by the FSA.

Another key aspect of Waugh Thistleton's design is the provision of three bins and a sink. With the aim of actively reducing waste, the customers are encouraged to use one bin to dispose of food for composting, they are then to wash out their food packaging in the sink provided before discarding the containers in the second bin dedicated to recycling. A third bin is supplied to throw away waste bound for the landfill, however as everything supplied in Pod is recyclable, it is hoped that customers would not choose to simply discard rather than recycle so publicly. This arrangement seeks to not only make customers aware of what they should be doing to reduce waste but change habits by engaging them into the motions of recycling.
